TMS is an FDA approved treatment for depression and OCD, and can be highly effective in situations where medications have failed or are not tolerated due to side effects.  TMS involves applying magnetic pulses to a part of the brain called the prefrontal cortex.  This brain region is critically involved in psychiatric illnesses such as depression and OCD and therefore an ideal target for TMS treatment.  TMS had advantages over medication treatment since the magnetic pulses are specifically delivered to the affected brain region, avoiding side effects that can arise from affecting other brain or body regions in the way that drugs do. The Brainsway deep TMS system offers the additional advantage over other TMS systems by allowing broader and deeper stimulation. This ensures that the focused stimulation optimally stimulates the targeted brain region.

Your initial visit will involve a through consultation with Dr. Cho, including reviews of diagnosis, treatment history, and evaluation for the safety of TMS therapy. If you are deemed eligible for TMS therapy and opt to receive treatment, the next visit with Dr. Cho will involve a personalized mapping of stimulation location and intensity. TMS treatments are administered daily (Monday to Friday) over the course of 4-6 weeks. The TMS treatment suite is staffed by highly-trained, experienced technicians.
