He also completed his psychiatry residency at the University of Pittsburgh, and further graduate training in Psychology at Princeton University. He is Professor of Psychiatry at the Baylor College of Medicine and has launched TMS clinics at Baylor as well as at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and the Houston Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. Dr. Cho brings this extensive research and clinical expertise together with his warm, compassionate approach to improving the lives of patients with state-of-the-art treatments.
TMS is an FDA approved treatment for depression and OCD, and can be highly effective in situations where medications have failed or are not tolerated due to side effects. TMS involves applying magnetic pulses to a part of the brain called the prefrontal cortex. This brain region is critically involved in psychiatric illnesses such as depression and OCD and therefore an ideal target for TMS treatment. TMS had advantages over medication treatment since the magnetic pulses are specifically delivered to the affected brain region, avoiding side effects that can arise from affecting other brain or body regions in the way that drugs do. The Brainsway deep TMS system offers the additional advantage over other TMS systems by allowing broader and deeper stimulation. This ensures that the focused stimulation optimally stimulates the targeted brain region.
Your initial visit will involve a through consultation with Dr. Cho, including reviews of diagnosis, treatment history, and evaluation for the safety of TMS therapy. If you are deemed eligible for TMS therapy and opt to receive treatment, the next visit with Dr. Cho will involve a personalized mapping of stimulation location and intensity. TMS treatments are administered daily (Monday to Friday) over the course of 4-6 weeks. The TMS treatment suite is staffed by highly-trained, experienced technicians who can accommodate early and later hour as well as weekend appointments.
As a Texas native, I am a proud alum of San Jacinto College, Prairie View A&M University, and The University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston. These institutions taught me not only how to be a nurse, but also a leader and advocate.
My nursing career has spanned over two decades and has included work in correctional care, medical-surgical nursing, home health, managed care, and education. Mental health became my passion as my career moved to inpatient psychiatric care, including comprehensive psychiatric emergency services.
Over the years I have gained invaluable experience caring for the medical, mental, and psychosocial needs of individuals and families. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I am able to assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate mental illness as well as prescribe medications and therapeutic treatment. My personal goal is to provide compassionate and competent mental health care, holistically serving the needs of the total person.

Hi! I’m Rachel, coordinator for the Houston Mind and Brain clinic team. I will most likely be your first point of contact with Houston Mind and Brain and I look forward to hearing from you! I have always had an interest in mental health, so being able to work with and learn from Dr. Cho is a god-send for me. My volunteer work with Houston’s homeless introduced me to a substantial amount of mental health traumas and has inspired me to offer care on a different level. I have found that my natural compassionate and empathetic personality is a blessing in this field. Our patients and co-workers are more like family which I think is particularly important. I seek to create a comfortable and safe and nurturing place for our patients, a place with no judgement or fear. I have seen, with my own eyes, the positive impact that TMS has on deeply depressed individuals. I hope you find the strength to take the first step. Give us a call I am always here for you! And let’s work together to break the stigma of mental health!
