*Does not cover dTMS therapy. Covers Medication Management
Does Insurance Cover TMS?
Insurance does cover dTMS therapy, but there are caveats.
The first caveat is that only dTMS for depression is covered by insurance.
The second caveat is that insurance may require you to try therapy and/or different classes of anti-depressants before they will cover you for dTMS therapy. We also ask that your PCP or psychiatrist provide a referral for dTMS.
The conditions vary per insurance. If Dr. Cho and/or our nurse practitioners think TMS is right for you, we will check your insurance and see if you are covered. If you still need to try more medication or therapy, we offer medication management through our nurses and Dr. Cho. We also have a list of recommended therapists!
TMS should be done in adjunct with medication and therapy. The combination has a higher chance of reducing your depressive symptoms.
The last caveat is that insurance will cover you for 36 treatments of TMS. Luckily, we start seeing results after 3-4 weeks of treatment and sometimes even earlier. After the 36 treatments, you come in once or twice a month at a cash pay rate made to accommodate you. These maintenance treatments ensure you retain the benefits of TMS after the initial 36 treatments. There are some cases where insurance may cover maintenance treatments.
