Biography

Dr. Alan Prossin is Associate Professor of Surgery, McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, where he directs both the Interdisciplinary PET Working Group and the Neuroimmune Brain Assay Research Program. Additional appointments, including Associate Member, Houston Methodist Research Institute, and Associate Professor, Psychiatry, Houston Methodist Hospital, provide the academic and administrative framework to facilitate his multi-institutional, inter-disciplinary collaborations and to validate his widespread recognition as a respected leader in molecular imaging research throughout the Texas Medical Center.

In this capacity, Dr. Prossin leverages his training as an Electrical Engineer and board-certified Psychiatrist to develop and implement research programs to bridge clinical translational research gaps that impede translation of innovative interventions from animal models to humans. More specifically, he develops and implements innovative molecular neuroimaging research paradigms to replicate findings from animal models across a range of pain and depressive syndromes in human subjects exposed to traumatic brain injury, surgery, stroke, etc. to develop more effective clinical interventions in these individuals.

Dr. Prossin has been continuously funded both as Principal Investigator and Co-investigator for the past 18 years on several federal (NIH, DOD), foundation (Brain and Behavior Research Foundation, Partners, UT Health Presidential Scholars, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention), and industry-sponsored clinical translational research projects and clinical trials. As Principal Investigator, he leads several current FDA clinical trials and provides consultative services to a national clinical research organization that implements a wide range of industry-led clinical trials in pain and depressive syndromes.
