Clinical Trials

Clinical trials advance medical knowledge and expand treatment options by evaluating the safety and effectiveness of emerging therapies. At Houston Mind & Brain, research efforts are led by a physician with extensive experience in neuroscience and NIH-funded clinical research, bringing academic rigor into a clinical setting.

We are currently enrolling for the following studies:

CANDID - For patients with Major Depressive Disorder

The CANDID study is a fully virtual, observational research study exploring whether patterns in speech and facial expressions can help doctors better understand and measure depression. It does not involve any experimental treatments or changes to your current care.

Here's what participation looks like:
• Up to 5 virtual visits over 6 to 8 weeks (each around 15 to 20 minutes)
• Everything is done online from your computer. No clinic visits, no travel.
• You may receive up to $200 in compensation for your time

A note about Patients starting medication:

If a patient is referred to this study and plans to start a new medication, they can do so immediately after completing their first study visit. Here's what to expect before that happens:

  1. A brief diagnostic interview with our central raters (conducted remotely)
  2. A short screening survey completed through Userlytics to confirm your eligibility (which can be completed same-day)
  3. Scheduling and completing your first study visit, which takes about 15-20 minutes (and can be scheduled immediately after screening is complete)

To enroll in this clinical trial, you must be:

  • Age 18-64 years old

  • Lives in the United States

  • Diagnosed with major depressive disorder with current episode beginning 2-24 months ago

  • Not currently on any antipsychotic, benzodiazepines, anxiolytics, prescription non benzo sleep aids
