What is Medication Management?

Medication management is a structured, collaborative process to find the best medication, dose, and schedule for your needs - and to keep you safe and informed as we monitor progress. It includes:

A careful review of your medical and psychiatric history

Psychoeducation about how a medication works, expected benefits, and side effects

A written plan for follow-up, monitoring, and dose adjustments

Who Can Medication Management Help?

Major or treatment-resistant depression

Anxiety disorders and panic symptoms

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

Bipolar depression or mood instability

ADHD and attentional problems

Symptoms that overlap with medical issues or require coordinated care

What to Expect

Your first appointment focuses on your story: symptoms, prior treatments, medical history, family history, and treatment goals. We use that information to clarify diagnoses and guide safe and effective prescribing.

Thorough evaluation

We explain how the chosen medication works, what to expect (timeline for improvement), common side effects, and practical tips for adherence. We co-create the plan, so you understand the next steps and safety precautions.

We also use a secure patient portal to keep everything in one place—your treatment plan, visit summaries, messaging, and updates. It’s the fastest way to reach your care team, ask questions, and stay on track between visits. For telemedicine appointments, portal use is required so we can ensure a smooth, secure, and well-coordinated experience.

Personalized prescription & education

Follow-ups & fine-tuning

After the initial visit, we schedule follow-up checks to monitor effectiveness and side effects, make dose adjustments, and watch for drug interactions. Many people notice early changes within 2–4 weeks; full benefit can take longer. We tailor timing to clinical needs.

Between visits, our secure patient portal makes it easy to stay connected—request medication refills, schedule appointments, and communicate with our team for questions or updates.

When it’s likely to improve outcomes, we may combine medication with psychotherapy, TMS, Spravato (esketamine), intranasal racemic ketamine, or Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). Our team meets regularly to review complex cases so your care stays well-coordinated and evidence-based.

Combined therapies when helpful

Safety & monitoring

Patient safety is central to our approach. We use structured prescribing—carefully matching the right patient, medication, dose, and treatment plan—and provide clear guidance on what to expect and when to seek support. When appropriate, we order or review labs (such as blood tests, metabolic panels, or ECGs) and coordinate closely with your primary care clinician, taking into account age-specific and medical considerations.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How soon will I feel a difference?

Many patients notice improvement within 2–4 weeks, but timelines vary by medication, person, and symptomology. We’ll monitor and adjust as needed.

  • Will I have to stay on medication forever?

Not necessarily. Some people benefit short-term; others require longer maintenance. We’ll review treatment plans regularly and taper medication when appropriate.

  • Can medication be combined with TMS or Spravato?

Yes. We often combine medication with procedural and psychotherapeutic treatments to optimize outcomes. We coordinate care so combinations are safe and complementary.

  • How do you keep me safe?

We follow structured prescribing principles, monitor side effects, review interactions, and order labs when indicated. We’ll give you clear instructions about what to watch for and how to reach us in case of concerns.

I have greatly benefited from the services of Houston Mind & Brain. I would encourage anyone seeking neurological or psychiatric treatment to visit them. I have particularly benefited most from their TMS treatment. It has changed my life for the better in so many ways. They have knowledgeable and friendly staff and providers who really do care about your health and because they are a smaller office you really do get that personal connection with the providers and staff. Highly recommend!

We Accept Insurance and Make Care Affordable

We accept most major plans for FDA-cleared treatments (including standard TMS and Spravato). We verify benefits, manage prior authorization, and provide a written estimate before treatment so there are no surprises.

  • Do you accept Medicaid?

No - we accept Medicare but do not accept Medicaid. If you have questions about coverage, call our team and we’ll help.

  • Will my insurance cover TMS?

Many commercial plans cover standard TMS when medical-necessity criteria are met. Accelerated/fast-track TMS is often self-pay. We verify benefits and submit prior authorization on your behalf.

  • What if I’m out of network?

This is uncommon because we are credentialed with most plans. If needed, we can provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement.

  • How do I get a written estimate?

Request a free 20-minute expert call. We’ll run a benefits check, explain likely coverage, and send a written estimate of patient responsibility before any treatment.

  • Can I get sliding scale pricing for TMS?

Yes. We offer sliding scale pricing for eligible patients and can provide a written cost estimate before treatment. To be considered, we’ll ask for proof of income, such as tax documents.

At this time, sliding scale pricing is not available for Medicare patients or for accelerated TMS protocols.
